I support and encourage you to support the Sinking Fund Proposal. I believe our 7,600+ students, teachers and community deserve the best facilities to learn in, teach in and use for sports, expos, recitals and more. Having a strong infrastructure is not only a benefit to the schools, but increases our home values as well. Every age and demographic can appreciate and support this.
Another reason I support this Fund is because of it’s restrictions. The money can’t be used for the following:
- Salaries and benefits
- Buses
- Operating Expenses
- Routine maintenance and supplies
- Loose equipment and furnishings
Everyone needs to budget accordingly, including families, companies, businesses and school districts. However, our schools are resources to the community and need to be supported as such. Due to the way schools are now funded (Proposal A) facility management is left to the community through sinking funds or bonds. By choosing a sinking fund, no debt or interest is incurred by the district.
